Tales of Puff Pastry and a Fish Fry

This weekend I made puff pastry.  Yes, I know, I made it at school so big whoop … but just wait. First, I have not made puff at home in at least a year.  Maybe longer.  I have made blitz puff pastry, a sort of extra flaky pie dough, many times but not regular puff. Second, the last time I did any real laminated dough at home I was out to prove I was not laminated dough impaired.  This time I was making it because I wanted to. ...

Playing in the Kitchen – Pork Chops

So let me start by saying that Nigella Lawson’s Mustard Pork Chops are SO tasty.  I can’t recommend them highly enough.  Not only was the recipe fast and easy, it was darn tasty and something I would be proud to serve for a dinner party.  If I had them. The sauce, really, is what makes the dish.  I used a whole grain mustard so the sauce had lovely brown flecks in it, I reduced the cream from 1/3 cup to two tablespoons...

A Long Night

Last night was a very long night.  One of my dogs has an infection in her paw and we ended up taking her to the 24 hour vet clinic to get it looked at.  It looks like she will be ok, we have drugs and ointments to give her, but we are keeping an eye on her.  It was really sad at the 24 hour vet.  At 10pm there is not a lot of happiness to be had there.  While we were waiting for the doctor to get us our...

A Weekend at Home – Gougeres

I had a busy weekend in the kitchen, and most of it was spent with Nigella Lawson’s cookbook Express. To start let me say that I think the principals of Express are wonderful.  Real food that does not take forever to make.  I can attest to the speed of the recipes, the five I have made took less than 30 minutes to get from pantry to plate, as well as to the tastiness of the final product.  Maybe the food is not all that healthy,...

Happy New Year

It is hard to think of my top Semi-ho episodes because they all have something in them that makes them memorable. The list below represents the ten episodes that have left a lasting impression one me and include some of the Klassic moments I love to hate! So, for the new year, and because I felt like getting this down … My Offical Top SLop Ten List: 10. Take In/Out 2 – It is all about the desecration of a poor apple pie,...

Battle of the Food Network Breasts!!

I can already tell you who the winner is. If we are going on looks alone Nigella Lawson (my new idol) wins hands down.  Her dark good looks, naturally round and curvy figure, smooth skin, and bright eyes would be enough to draw you in.  Add to this a sparkling wit and a true love of cooking, not the short-cut-whack-a-dough-put-an-extract-in-a-box-of-cake-mix that Sandra Lee peddles, and you have someone that could save the Food...
